(Broward County, FL) - The Broward County B-cycle bike sharing program has hired Kathryn Reid Moore as its new Program Manager as part of its effort to continue the program’s growth, and bring the benefits of bike sharing to more residents and visitors. Moore joins Broward B-cycle with strong experience in building cycling encouragement programs for the city of Miami, as a Special Aide to former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz on transit and sustainability projects.
Broward B-cycle, an active form of public transportation,is facilitated by Broward County Transit resulting from an agreement between B-cycle and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners. B-cycle is a partnership among Trek Bicycle, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, and Humana, Inc., one of the leading health care companies in Florida and a presenting sponsor of Broward B-cycle. Funding is also made available from an intermodal grant in the amount of $311,000 from FDOT for bikes and infrastructure. Broward B-cycle opened on December 14, 2011 with stations in Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach, and installed seven new stations in March of 2012. The network connects Hallandale, Hollywood, Dania Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, and Pompano Beach.
With 26 stations and 275 B-cycles currently in the system, Broward B-cycle serves over 9,836 registered users, 342 annual members, and in its first six months of operation has prevented 53,962 lbs of CO2 from being put in the air by helping users bike 56,466 miles instead of going by car.
“Broward B-cycle gives locals and tourists alike a chance to explore South Florida in an entirely new, sustainable and healthy way,” said Kathryn Moore, the program’s new manager. “I’m proud to be a part of this revolutionary program and I look forward to expanding B-cycle in the coming months.”
